South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Zach Auguste scored 26 points and No. 25 Notre Dame pulled away in the second half for an 83-63 win over short-handed Florida State on Saturday night in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. Conference scoring leader Jerian Grant added 18 points, including 14 in the second half, and Demetrius Jackson also scored 18 as Notre Dame (10-1, 1-0 ACC) picked up its sixth consecutive win since a one-point loss to Providence on Nov. 23. Florida State played without leading scorer Aaron Thomas, who was declared ineligible by the school on Friday. The junior guard was averaging 14.8 points and 3.5 rebounds this season. Somebody else just has to step up, FSU coach Leonard Hamilton said. For us, we just have a lot of moving parts this season. We have a young squad. We have some youngsters there that I think will continue to work hard. Well get a few more games under their belt and develop a little better identity and be more consistent. I think that will definitely help us. Montay Brandon had 14 points to lead the Seminoles (4-5, 0-1) and Devon Bookert scored 11. It was Notre Dames first win in three all-time games against Florida State, which beat the Irish in the 2011 NCAA Tournament and won the first meeting between the teams as ACC foes last season. Notre Dame had 10 dunks in the game. The Irish are throwing down, baby. The Irish are throwing down, Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said. How about that? We got some guys that can finish dont we? But to get a league win under your belt before Christmas is huge. Auguste scored 14 of his 26 points to help Notre Dame take a 36-30 lead at halftime.
